Currency of Sweden - Swedish Krona

Sweden uses the Swedish krona as its national and official currency despite the fact that many people assume that Sweden, as a member of the European Union, would in fact be a member of the eurozone. This is not the case and it uses the krona. The word krona means 'crown' and in the English language, the krona is often called the Swedish Crown, as a sort of nickname.

Each krona is divided into 100 Öre with coins issued as 50 Öre, then 1, 5 and 10 kronor (the word kronor is the plural for krona). Notes come in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 kronor.

The Sveriges Riksbank issues and controls the currency and it is identified on international financial markets by the letters SEK.
